MINBYUN – Lawyers for a Democratic Society submitted written comments in response to the United Nations Human Rights Committee’s call for comments on Draft General Comment No. 38 on Article 22(Freedom of Association) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights(ICCPR). The submission presents an overview of the Republic of Korea’s framework as well as practice concerning the protection of the right to freedom of association. In particular, it examines issues relating to the regulation of public interest foundations and non-profit organizations, as well as the protection of the freedom of association of trade unions and civil society organizations, and offers recommendations to ensure greater compliance with international human rights standards.
